During your gastronomic holidays in Trentino, do not miss the taste of the traditional and original sausage with turnips: the Ciuìga produced in Banale.

This inimitable salami has its origins in the second half of the nineteenth century, in conditions of true poverty. This special sausage was made with the poorest parts of the pork meat and white turnips cooked and chopped. From the austerity of that ancient recipe, Ciuìga is now mainly produced with high-quality pork meat and excellent local white turnips.

Preferably eaten cooked, the Ciuìga has been acknowledged as a food to be preserved and included in the Slow Food Recipes. Nowadays it is still produced in winter time, as from the ancient tradition.

San Lorenzo in Banale celebrates its exceptional sausage with turnips during the traditional Festival of the Ciuìga, from 25th to 26th October and from 31st October to 1st November 2020. An appointment of folklore with themed menus, street performances, music, a market for local products and handicrafts from Trentino.
